I’m coaching the CEO of a local startup.
We just raised a final $3M and realized she was maxed-out in terms of her ability to lead the scaling of the business. We closed the deal and hired the new COO today and Jennifer (the CEO) will groom him for the next six months to lead her company to the next level. The Board of Directors is watching carefully, determined to make this a text book example of succession planning.
Those were big milestones.
It’s always about best practices.
We got through the latter when I sent her a note:
“If each of us hires people who are smaller than we are, we shall become a company of dwarfs. But if each of us hires people who are bigger than we are, we shall become a company of giants. – David Ogilvy“.
While the words may seem insensitive today, their import can’t be lost on people learning how to lead a company for tomorrow.
Jennifer will make a brilliant Chief Strategy Officer. And, she will breathe so much easier with her vision in the hands of people that value and cherish it.
Congratulations Jennifer… You are making me so very proud.
Let’s be part of the Solution.
